Abdominoplasty-Tummy Tuck

Ask a question

A significant weight loss in men and women, especially after pregnancies is usually the reason for undergoing an Abdominoplasty. The procedure tones both the upper and lower abdominal regions and is ideal for women who have had multiple pregnancies, which tend to permanently expand the skin and muscles of the stomach.

Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck is a surgical procedure whose goal is to get rid of loose skin and stretch marks on the abdomen area by removing stretched, excess tissue and tightening the abdominal muscles.

If an excess skin is shown only inthe lower abdomen area, a “mini” tummy tuck may be all that is required. The purpose of the Abdominoplasty and Mini-Abdominoplasty is to make the abdomen flatter, smoother, and improve overall appearance.

After placing the patient under general anesthesia the surgery begins with a vertical incision which is placed carefully along the lower abdomen (from hip to hip). The abdominal muscles are brought together and reinforced with sutures, which will create a firmer, flatter midsection nd narrow the waistline. The xcess fat is removed and the skin is repositioned and trimmed. A full tummy tuck involves also a repositioning of the belly button. The incisions are then closed with sutures, and a sterile dressing is applied to the abdominal area. Also a drainage could be placed.

The Tummy Tuck procedure generally takes 2 to 4 hours.

Each patient recovers at its own pace, but most tummy tuck patients need up to two weeks for the initial recovery. There can be bruising and swelling in the abdominal area, which should resolve gradually during the recovery process. For the first few days the patient must sleep on one side with folded legs.Any pain and discomfort will be treated with painkillers. The posture should be not straight but walking bended for several weeks. Patients should expect some scarring from the procedure- however, the scar from a tummy tuck usually fades (though not completely) with time, and can be easily hidden under clothing and swimwear.
If the patient is a smoker, he/she needs to quit for several weeks before the surgery and not to resume for at least a month after the procedure.

Having a tummy tuck will not interfere with a woman's ability to get pregnant, but pregnancy can generally ruin abdominoplasty results, so the patient should consider having children before undergoing a tummy tuck.It is important to note that a Tummy Tuck is not a substitute for weight loss through diet and exercise. Also, the procedure cannot correct stretch marks, but they may sometimes be removed or improved during the excision of your excess skin.

A Mini Tummy Tuck is a procedure quite similsr to the traditional tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), during which the loose skin and fat from the abdominal region are removed. This cosmetic procedure only focuses on the lower area of the abdomen between the belly button and pubic area. The Mini Abdominoplasty is less invasive than a normal tummy tuck, respectively the recovery is shorter. During a mini tummy tuck, the belly button does not have to be repositioned or reconstructed.

The use of Aspirin is forbidden for 14 days before the operation.
