Hymenoplasty is an operative intervention in which, through a special surgical technique (adjustment and joining of the torn ends of the hymen, according to the degree of desired tightening of the mucosa and double-layer suturing, with the aim of stable and permanent reconstruction), the integrity of the hymen is restored. The sutures that are used are resorbable, after the intervention there are no visible scars. The operation lasts 30 minutes and is performed under local or general anesthesia. No pain was reported after the intervention, but painkillers were prescribed if needed.
The post-operative recovery period is 2 weeks, during which time it is not allowed to perform heavy physical activity, exercise and sports, as well as the insertion of tampons during the monthly cycle. It is necessary to pay special attention to intimate hygiene and strictly follow the postoperative instructions given by the surgeon who performed the intervention. After completion of the recovery period, the hymen is in the same state as it was before the violation of its integrity, and in some cases it is possible that the vagina is narrowed.
The intervention is suitable for women over 18 years of age who wish to restore their hymen for cosmetic, psychological or religious reasons. It is recommended that hymenoplasty be performed after the end of the monthly cycle.
With subsequent "first" sexual contact, bleeding and possibly minimal pain will be observed, and the integrity of the hymen will again be compromised.
Hymenoplasty can be performed in a combined surgical intervention with labiaplasty, vaginoplasty and correction of the clitoris.
